According to the Producers Council Secretary T. Prasanna Kumar, the film ‘Arya-2’ starring Allu Arjun alone lost about Rs. 3 crore because theatres across the Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions were not allowed to screen the film. The suspense-thriller ‘Amaravathi’ lost Rs. 70 lakh across the State. In the State capital alone, the 10 shows that did not take place led to a loss of Rs. 30 lakh. The Priyamani and Jagapati Babu-starrer ‘Pravarakhyudu’ lost Rs. 50 lakh.
Throughout Anantapur district, between December 9 and December 23, only a half-a-dozen shows were screened, said K. Ramasubba Reddy, vice-president, Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce from Anantapur.
The geographical division into districts apart, the State has two major distribution districts called Nizam and Ceded districts.
The former covers all the 10 Telangana districts, including Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, while the four Rayalaseema districts comprise the latter. Guntur and Prakasam are considered one film district, as also Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam.
These apart, Krishna, Nellore, East and West Godavari are called separate districts in the industry.
Losses due to non-screening apart, two big budget films did not release as per schedule. They include ‘Adurs’ with NTR Jr. in the lead and Sekhar Kammula’s ‘Leader’ with debutant hero Rana Daggubati.
