Srija and Sirish: Striking a happy note

Two years after Chiru’s daughter tied the knot against his wishes, all is forgiven and forgotten

Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi’ daughter Srija had tied the knot in true filmi style in 2007 — she had eloped with boyfriend Shirish Bharadwaj, married against her family’s wishes and sought police protection.

Two years later, the couple is on a vacation in Delhi with 17- month- old daughter Nivrithi whose birth helped improve relations between Srija and her parents.

“ When we remember that time now, we just laugh. I am relieved and happy that my relations with my parents have improved,” says a happy Srija.

She says it was only after Nivrithi’s birth that her mother and brother, popular actor Ram Charan Tej, came to the hospital to meet her.

“ Everything fell in place when my daughter was born on July 5 last year. Before that, everybody was in touch with us only over phone,” she adds.

It’s clear the couple has come a long way from their nightmarish experience in 2007.

Shirish and Srija had married on October 17 in Hyderabad at an Arya Samaj Mandir and rushed to Delhi for protection after receiving threats from Chiranjeevi’s fans and supporters. The superstar was against his daughter’s alliance with a Brahmin boy.

Srija moved the Delhi High Court saying her life was in danger and was granted police pro- tection on October 22. She had said in her plea that she feared a repeat of the infamous Rizwanur Rehman murder case.

Recalling those moments now, Shirish says it’s hard to believe how both of them had so much courage to take on Chiranjeevi who is considered “ God” in Andhra Pradesh.

“ It was inner strength and true love that made it possible. That time many people said I was doing all this at the behest of some politician. But we proved everybody wrong,” he adds.

The couple returned to Hyderabad soon after the court’s decision in 2007. According to them, they started a new life with the hope that someday Chiranjeevi would forgive them and accept their marriage.

“ When we visited market places, there were mixed reactions from people. Some used to praise us for our courage while others said I should not have upset my father,” Srija says.

Tollywood and Bollywood directors also turned up at the couple’s door during that period, offering to make films on their love story.

However, it was only after Nivrithi was born that the ice was broken with Chiru.

Shirish says: “ She was the first granddaughter in Srija’s family and her parents and relatives started meeting us again. Things became normal gradually.” Srija’s in- laws were supportive throughout the couple’s ordeal.

Shirish says his family ensured Srija never missed her parents.

When asked whether the couple has any plans to join politics, Srija says, “ I was never interested in politics and even advised my father not to join it.” Shirish, on the other hand, is quite keen on the idea and plans to grab any political opportunity if it presents itself in the future.

He currently has a business of his own and Srija is pursuing a chartered accountancy course.

'Avatar' Collections Beat 'Ghajini' In India?

For the record, the film has collected a whopping Rs 6.75 crores right on the first day of its release and that too, these figures are just for the English version only. The collections of the first week and the first month will scale new records, say the trade pundits from various corners.

The prediction is that ‘Avatar’ will cross the 200 plus crores mark that the Hindi blockbuster ‘Ghajini’ has recorded. Many say that the title has got a strong appeal and it is the wonderful movie expertise that has been drawing a lot of attention from the audience.

Sneha's 'Attachment' With Police

Young Tiger Junior NTR is keeping his fingers crossed as his upcoming movie “Adurs” is going to release. As the present political situation in Andhra Pradesh is deteriorated, this may be the last film of Junior NTR as an AP hero. If in coming days, telangana state comes into existence, the JR. NTR will be considered as another state hero as he hails from Andhra which is going to be separate state.

Ileana has worked with Jr. NTR in “Rakhi” and shares a special rapport with him on and off screen. So, she may get a nod for this project. But at the same time, her recent release “Saleem” has been declared as a flop and so there are chances that latest tollywood sensation Kajal Agarwal can bag this project.

According to sources, Kajal Agarwal has offered a discount to director Meher Ramesh as she is willing to act in this film for just Rs 50 lakhs instead of Rs 70 lakhs. Star producer Ashwini DUTT is producing this movie at a budget of Rs 45 cr.

Ileana is said to be inclined in working in this project as well and so Meher Ramesh has left the decision to Jr. NTR.

Charmy coming as Mangala

The bubbly heroine Charmy made a big splash with her thriller film Mantra She did not have many films after that and was not seen or heard much. Charmy was only getting item song offers.

Charmy has now bagged a thriller titled Mangala. Director Tulasiram who made the film Mantra will direct the new film. The other star cast and crew will be announced shortly. The film will roll out in January.

Kedi audio on Dec 25 th

Kamakshi Kala Movies-made Nagarjuna-Mamtha Mohandas starrer Kedi under the direction of debutant director Kiran with D Sivaprasad Reddy as producer is going to release the audio on December 25th.

It has music by Sandeep Chowtha. Presented by Annapurna Studios, the film is touted to be a romantic comedy, keeping in view the particular requirements of the Nag-fans.

Nag himself said that the film would revolve round racy episodes like gambling and robbing of cars.

Debutant actress Linda will be seen in a special role. Ankur (Slumdog Millionaire fame) is playing a bad guy in this film .The producer informed that the audio will be launched on December 25.

This film ready to release on Sankranti is a gift for Nag’s fans. Kamakshi Kala Movies banner is going to celebrate its Silver Jubilee on the eve of completion of 25 years in 2010.

Nirmal Pandey, Sayaji Shinde, Akhilendra Misra, Brahmanandam, Tanikella Bharani and Harsha Vardhan are among the prime cast. Arvesh Murari handles the cinematography.

Some people say less is more. I say, more is less and too much is not enough – James Cameron.

As I stepped out of Imax last night after watching AVATAR in 3D, I hated James Cameron for in comparison to the ultra futuristic vision of his, he made me feel like a pre-historic being of cinema in every which way. AVATAR in 3D is the most mind-blowing cinematic experience anybody can ever hope to have in their entire lifetime. Nearly 3 decades ago I remember being awestruck with Star Wars and now nearly 30 years later AVATAR to me looked 30 years ahead of its time both in its creative output and also in terms of James Cameron’s sheer imaginative power.

Some people said that it’s low on the emotional quotient compared to Titanic but if at all, that could be because the visuals and the atmosphere of the film are so breathtaking that it takes you that much more time and effort to connect to its emotional aspect and its story when compared to a normal film with normal people.

I have never believed in God but I think James Cameron is greater than God for the simple reason that he created a far more beautiful, far more fantastic and far more exotic world than what even God can ever hope to create.

And all this he managed to do it in a paltry budget of 1200 Crores. Yes, I say it’s a paltry budget considering we make films like Kambhakt Ishq and London Dreams for budgets nearly touching 80 to 90 crores which is nearly as much as 1/12th of the budget of AVATAR and then every shot of AVATAR looks 12000 times better than our entire so-called 100 crore films.

I honestly feel that it is a crime to give away such a glorious experience as that of watching AVATAR for a mere 100 or 200 Rupee ticket to us common people.

When someone asked me if the special efx of AVATAR will inspire other filmmakers, I said that on the contrary they might have a reverse effect. What I mean is that we can only aspire to become someone when we can atleast have a belief that we can reach someone’s potential but James Cameron in AVATAR created a bench mark so high that it will take years for us lesser folk even to comprehend it let alone attempt to execute it.

It’s like if you aspire to be a runner and somehow hope to run at a speed of 20km per hour which may be the world record and then when on the track you see a guy running at 200kmph you would rather give up and come back and make family dramas and TV serials and leave the running to James Cameron.

Titanic was fantastic but it did not shake me up inspite of everyone else around me back then saying that James Cameron is God of cinema.

But with his second coming “AVATAR” I have surely turned religious.

I want to pray to him for making “AVATAR”.

I hate him for making all us so-called filmmakers in the world feel like ants. (Read chooths)

I love him for the passion and the patience with which he created new benchmarks in each and every technical aspect of the medium of films.

And lastly, “I thank him for existing”.

P.S: I truly believe “AVATAR” will divide cinema as we knew it so far into a pre “AVATAR” and a post “AVATAR” era.

Don’t see it…. Experience it.
